Lim Chooi Yen firmly believes that businesses should start from where it matters most: the people. She is passionate about businesses with heart, and works primarily with social enterprises — businesses with a mission to solve social problems sustainably. She teaches social entrepreneurship to community organisations, business owners, and students wanting to make a difference. Through her work at Social Enterprise Alliance Malaysia, she has developed education programmes on social business for groups like British Council Malaysia and the US Embassy. Frequently Asked Questions

  1. What do I do in this event?
It’s an idea realization and validation workshop. You work in a team on an idea for a solution to a problem. You get to interview people to validate your solution and then prototype your solution.
  2. Can guys join?
Well, technically no. We welcome all women aged 18 years and above, and anyone identifying as female. There are many other hackathons and similar events for both genders, but we wanted to create one just for women so that women have that option of a safe, collaborative place to work on ideas together.
  3. Is there coding involved?
It’s not strictly a coding event, but you can code a prototype — prototyping can be anything from paper prototype to a webapp.
  4. I am not an entrepreneur and don’t really want to be one. Can I join?
GIRL Unhackathon is part of the Women Entrepreneur Track at GREAT 2014 but you don’t have to be an entrepreneur to join. Students, working professionals, housewives, teachers, anyone can join.
  5. I’ve got something else to do on Day 1. Can I come for only 1 day?
We don’t recommend it but do register anyway and send us a note, we’ll put you on our waitlist. There is a lot of activity happening over the two days so it is best that you attend both days to really be involved, to learn and to work with your teams.

Don’t miss out on letting your ideas be heard!
